This Thing Here Under My Rear
I spend the bulk of my day sitting in a desk chair, though I hadn’t really given a whole lot of thought as to it’s comfort until recently. My first day here I sat down, adjusted the height and tested the lean to ensure I wouldn’t end up on the floor. Aside from that moment the chair wasn’t even a thought, it is just here, under my rear, day in and day out.
A recent conversation got me to thinking about my chair though. Well more over got me thinking about desk chairs in general. What is it that makes a chair super comfortable and ergonomic? Is my chair comfortable, should I expect more? For these answers I turned to Google and learned that this cushion under my rear is very important. For example, I learned that spending long periods of time on any chair can result in the following problems:
- Pelvic misalignment causing spinal problems and corpulence of the lower body
- Twisted spines causing migraine headaches
- Disorder around the anal area (I stopped there, I don’t really need those details)
In my mind the real problem is that we spend more hours working than sleeping or anything else really. So it seems illogical that most office furniture is so much cheaper and temporary that home furniture. I say this as I sit in my $12 Walmart-hell-on-wheels chair I use at home. It is sort of like sitting on a felt covered cardboard box with a stick. It makes my chair at work feel like a throne.
In any case, I have been thinking about chairs and what my ideal would be. It would have to be pretty, but also comfy. And so begins my search for the perfect desk chair. . .
