Oh I am having the screaming heebie jeebies just at the thought of looking under there. But having had some nasty stitches in high school (suffice it to say they had to pin the bones together underneath and the pins were removable so they stuck out) I can verify Wende’s statement – it will never look as bad as it does now. And hopefully it will look much better very soon!

sadly, I didn’t get any pain meds. Thankfully a good friend cam over and did the initial unwrapping and cleaning before giving me the all clear to take a look.
It’s good to know the worst is over!

Deep breath. I’m totally with you on terror at having to look under the bandages tomorrow. I’d be repeating to myself that the hospital wouldn’t send me home if I couldn’t cope — while quaffing pain meds and muttering. The good thing is, it’ll never look as bad again as it does the first time you have to look at it.

Years ago, I did everything with my “off” hand for 6 weeks due to having repair surgery after slicing through a finger tendon. It never gets funny, but it does get manageable. I drove a stick shift and cooked Thanksgiving dinner with my right arm immobilized. You will cope.
